Getting from Vietnam to Laos

By Air

Direct flights connect major Vietnamese cities (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City) to Laos's international airports (Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Pakse, Savannakhet). Flight durations range from 1 to 1.5 hours, with costs between 100 and 200 euros, depending on the season.

By Land

Bus connections are available from various Vietnamese cities

Hanoi to Vientiane: Direct bus (20-24 hours) or train to Vinh followed by local bus. Border crossing: Nam Can (Vietnam) to Nam Phao (Laos). Approximate cost: 50-60 euros.
Hue/Da Nang to Savannakhet: Bus via the Lao Bao (Vietnam) to Densavan (Laos) border crossing. Travel time: around 12-15 hours. Cost: 30-40 euros.
Ho Chi Minh City to Pakse: Bus via the Moc Bai (Vietnam) - Trapeang Kriel (Cambodia) - Veun Kham (Laos) border crossings. Duration: approximately 24 hours. Cost: 50-60 euros.

Location : Between Quang Binh Province (Vietnam)  and Borikhamxay Province (Laos). More precisely, it lies in the Khamkheuth district, around 18 km northeast of the town of Lak Sao.     
Timings : The border crossing is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Connecting cities : Vinh and Lak Sao
Tay Trang - Sop Hun
Location: Between Dien Bien Province (Vietnam) and Phongsaly Province (Laos)
Connecting cities: Dien Bien (Vietnam) and Muang Khua (Laos)

By river

Offbeat and unique, a cruise on the Mekong also allows you to reach Laos from Vietnam. Departing from Ho Chi Minh City, via Phnom Penh (Cambodia), with a stop in Kratie before arriving in Stung Treng to enter Laos at Don Khong.
