Duration:
7 days 6 nights
Day 1: Arrive in Ha Noi – Overnight train to Lao Cai (D)
As you arrive at Ha Noi airport, our shuttle van will pick you up and take you to
Ha Noi’s famous Old Quarter
. Here you can spend the day exploring the heart of Ha Noi with its myriad of shops and stalls, take a stroll down the narrow alleyways or enjoy some locally brewed beer, “Bia Hoi”, on a streetcorner. At 9:00pm our shuttle van will pick you up again, this time from the hotel, and take you to the train station for your overnight train ride to Lao Cai.
- No cycling on this day.
Day 2: Sapa - Lao Chai - Ta Van Valley afternoon ride (B/L/D)
You will arrive in Lao Cai in the early hours of the morning. Here you will get off the train and transfer to a van for transport to Sapa. Once in Sapa you can enjoy breakfast while taking in the idyllic views of the town and surrounding landscape. After breakfast and a quick rest, it’s time to get on a bicycle and truly enjoy the splendour of Sapa Valley. This will take you out of the town and down the windy roads meandering through the rice paddy fields. Once Sapa has been sufficiently explored (expect about 20km of cycling) you’ll retire to the accomodation for some well deserved rest.
- This day includes 20km of cycling.
Day 3: Sapa - Ta Phin Loop ride full day (B/L/D)
On the third day it’s time to get off the beaten track and go off-road. Cycling towards the village of
Ta Phin
, the road will become more challenging, as you crest steep and forested hillsides. On your way you will get to see several villages inhabited by the ethnic minorities of the region, and get a view of their particular style of Vietnamese life. After about 30km of cycling you can settle in for your last night in Sapa.
- This day includes 30km of cycling.
Day 4: Sapa – Tam Duong (Phong Tho) – Pa So (B/L/D)
The fourth day will commence with a ride up to the
Tram Ton Pass
, which acts as a perfect warm-up for the long descent down the
Binh Lu Track
. Here you will feel as if you have really left the beaten track, as you descend on a jeep trail made of hard-packed gravel and dirt. After roughly 70km of riding you will find yourself in
Tam Duong and Pa So
, where you will spend the night.
- This day includes 80km of cycling.
Day 5: Pa So – Sin Ho - Lai Chau (now Muong Lay) (B/L/D)
On the fifth day, the intensity of the cycling ramps up. As the road climbs up and down the mountains, it alternates between tarmac uphill and packed gravel and dirt going downhill. Prepare yourself for a brutal ride, but know that you will be thoroughly rewarded with some of the most spectacular views you will ever get to witness. You will pass
Sin Ho
and after 45km of cycling, reach
Lai Chau (Muong Lay)
, where you will spend the night.
- This day includes 45km of cycling.
Day 6: Lai Chau – Tuan Giao - Dien Bien Phu (B/L/D)
As this day is the final day of
cycling on the tour
, it’s time to go big. This will be the hardest and most challenging ride of the tour, going over rough tarmac roads the whole way. Fortunately it will be worth it, as you get to enjoy jaw-ping scenery and villages completely untouched by the world. After a long day of cycling and passing through
Tuan Giao
, you will reach
Dien Bien Phu
, where you can lay your weary head to rest.
- This day includes 90km of cycling.
Day 7: Dien Bien Phu – Hanoi (B)
On the final day, you will have the opportunity to spend half the morning exploring the many historical sites of
Dien Bien Phu
, where the final climactic battle of the First Indochina War took place. You will then catch a late morning flight to Ha Noi and transfer back into town.
- No cycling on this day.
