  • Day 1: Arrival Pakse - Boloven Plateau - Tadlo Waterfall (L)
    • Your guie will pick you up at Pakse airport for driving through a countryside littered with charming villages and rolling hills. The deep contrast between the lush, green vegetation and the red surface of basaltic soil is an incredible thing to see as you pass along. Your first stop will be at some tea and coffee plantations, followed by Tad Fan Waterfall, a picturesque twin chute waterfall.

Here you get to explore Ban Bong Neua, an interesting minority village of the Alak minority boasting a sacrificial altar, before spending the rest of the day at the waterfall to relax, explore, watch the elephants bathe and enjoy the sunset over a Lao beer. You also have the option for a short elephant ride to take in the stunning scenery. You then stay in Tadlo for the night.

  • Day 2: Tadlo - Wat Phu Temple - Khong Island - Don Khone (B, L)
    • A scenic drive takes you from Tadlo to the former royal capital of Champasak, which serves as a gateway to the pre-Angkoran temple of Wat Phu, one of Laos’ two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This hillside edifice was once an important sanctuary of the Khmer Empire. While the temple structure was partly destroyed during the turbulent history of the region, it is nonetheless fascinating to walk among its ruins.

Following a walkway that features various iconic forms, like Vishnu, Shiva and Kala, you will reach the upper grounds of the temple which offers a spectacular view of the surrounding valley and mighty Mekong River.

Following this you will get to visit Wat Phou Museum and Oum Moung Temple, before a drive to the 4000 Islands and a quick 30 minute boat trip from the central market to Don Khone Island. By afternoon you will reach the spectacular Don Khone Island, just in time to watch the sunset over the Mekong River.

After lunch you will have the opportunity of taking a local boat in search of the rare freshwater dolphins that make this area of the Mekong their home. After this you will return to Don Khone for another nights stay.

The area is positively teeming with wildlife, making it one of the most breathtaking destinations in Laos.
