  • Day 2: Royal Palace – Tuol Sleng – Killing Field (B,-,-)
    • After breakfast, it’s time to see what the capital has to offer. Starting with the magnificent Royal palace, which still serves as the home for the highly respected Royal family and His Majesty the King Norodom Sihamony. You will then proceed to the famous Silver Pagoda, one of Cambodias most sacred houses of worship, before visiting the Elephant Museum.
Now the activities take a darker turn as you get to learn about Cambodia’s brutal recent history. Beginning with the former Khmer Rouge S-21 prison, now known as Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum followed by a 16km drive to the infamous Killing Field of Cheung Ek, which now serves as a museum and memorial site for the victims of Pol Pot’s horrific regime from 1975-1979.
To round out the day, you will make a stop at the Russian Market, famous for its large collection of artisinal handicrafts.

  • Day 3: Phnom Penh – Kampot (B,-,-)
    • Departing Phnom Penh, you will travel along well maintained roads southwards, until you make a stop at Tonle Bati, where an ancient stone monument dating to the Angkorian era can be observed. Incidentally this is also a popular local picnic site where the locals will spend their day dining with their family while overlooking the large river.
The next stop on the way to Kampot will be Phnom Chhnork, a fascinating limestone cave housing a 7th century shrine. The shrine was built under the drooping stalctites which over the centuries have slowly grown into the structure itself. Here we might be accomponied by young local tour guides in training hoping to practice their English before or after their schoolday.
Once you reach Kampot you will be ped off at the hotel and the evening is yours to explore the town or relax.

  • Day 4: Kampot – Sihanoukville (B,-,-)
    • Departing Kampot, you will head up the winding mountain road to Bokor, the former French hill station built during the colonial era as a retreat from the countrys heat. As you climb the mountain, the route offers breathtaking views of the plain and the river as it flows into the Gulf of Thailand. Despite the relatively recent construction of a Casino Resort, there are still plenty of traces from the colonial era, such as the Catholic church and a number of abandoned villas.
Following Bokor you will drive the rest of the way to Sihanoukville, where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach or discovering what the town has to offer before you turn in for the night.

    • Once you’ve had breakfast, you will be taken to the pier, where a speedboat is waiting to take you to the island of Koh Rong Sanloem. Here there are a plethora of activities you can take part in, from snorkelling, to sunbathing on the beautiful beaches, to enjoying a cold beer as you watch the local fishermen. There are no further activities planned for this day, so you can spend it doing whichever activity appeals to you.

  • Day 6: Floating Village - Battambang (B,-,-)
    • After a relaxing day on Koh Rong Sanloems beaches, you will head back to the mainland for a drive to Battambang via Kampong Chhnang. On the way you will stop at a floating village in the Tonlé Sap lake. Here the inhabitans have lived on the water for generations, unconcerned with the seasonal rise and fall of the lakes water level. The village is complete with all the amenities you’d expect in any town, from ice factories to phone shops and even a dental clinic!
Following the visit to the floating village you will continue the drive to Battambang, where you will spend the night.

    • Today will be spent exploring Battambang, Cambodias second largest city known for its thriving rice production, leading to its nickname: “Cambodia’s rice bowl”.
Here you will visit the famous sites of the city such as Phnom Sampov, a sacred meditation hill where if you’re lucky, you might get to see a young nun dedicate their life to Buddhism.
Continuing to Banan, an Angkorian temple, you will get to climb the steps and get a picturesque view of Battambang from above.
You will also spend some time outside the city itself, driving through peaceful villages along the Sangker River, giving you a chance to spot all the aspects of typical countryside life in Cambodia, before returning to Battambang for the night.

  • Day 9: Siem Reap: Angkor Wat – Angkor Thom (B,-,-)
    • This day will be spent in what many consider the highlight of Cambodia, the masterpiece of Khmer architecture that is Angkor Wat. Sporting extraordinary carvings on its bas-reliefs, this “Capital Temple” is not only the symbol and pride of the Khmer people, but also the world’s largest religious monument. It has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1992.
But while Angkor Wat itself might be the most famous temple, there are many more to see here. Continue on to Ta Prohm, which has been slowly swallowed by the jungle. Man may have originally conquered the jungle to erect buildings here, but over the course of centuries, nature has reclaimed it, and the temple sports giant trees spreading their tentacle-like roots into its very rocks.
Moving on you will visit many more temples that are part of the sprawling complex, including the mysterious Royal city of Angkor Thom and Bayon with its 54 towers and hundreds of smiling stone faces. Then you will tour the outskirts of the complex, visiting Baphuon, Elephant Terrace, Leper Kings Terrace and the Royal palace.
You will then return to Siem Reap for the night.
