A visa is required for all foreigners who wish to visit Vietnam except for citizens of countries that have an agreement on visa exemption with Vietnam. Now, with an open-door policy to welcome travellers to the country, applying for a visa has become easier than ever. Foreign travellers now have two options for how to apply for a Visa to Vietnam:
Option 1: Apply for Vietnam Visa at Vietnam Embassy:
Foreigners can apply for a Visa to Vietnam at any Vietnam Embassy/Consulate:
- Processing time: 5 – 7 working days
- Original passport required
Option 2: Apply for Vietnam Visa on Arrival:
Foreign travellers can also apply for Vietnam visa on arrival. Visa on arrival – a type of visa picked up at arrival airport – is applied for online to get a visa approval letter and then you will have to get the visa stamped at the arrival airport. This kind of visa is offered to those who travel to Vietnam by air ONLY.
Particularly, people living far from any Vietnam Embassies/Consulates will find this option very convenient. The applicants for Vietnam visa on arrival neither have to go to the Embassy or have to send out their passport. By using this form of visa, the visa applicants only need to fill out the online application, make their payment and wait for 1 or 2 working days to get their visa approval letter issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department as an official permission allowing them to enter Vietnam and get their visa stamped on their passports on arrival in Vietnam.
